Thank you, Michael, for sharing your valuable insights and perspectives on branding. It’s always fascinating to hear your point of view and learn from your expertise. I was particularly struck by your description: "We build our civilizations, our societies, and our faiths out of shared symbols and meanings that endure over time." That idea truly resonated with me!
Happy to see the move to Substack. I’ve been struggling with the transition from my established following on LinkedIn to a new platform. There’s far more engagement on LI. Anyway, you have a wealth of knowledge and thoughtfully share it. Looking forward to following along!
It was not an easy decision to make the move. LinkedIn is my biggest network and the reception was good. Substack feels like a much better fit with longer form content and going deeper on some of these ideas.
I feel we're both in the same boat. FWIW, for a while I was posting in both Substack and LinkedIn as two separate articles, which reaffirmed that engagement was far better in LI, but it did nothing to increase my engagement in Substack. Lately I've been just posting a link to Substack from LI and slowly seeing increased engagement there. As someone not expecting to monetize Substack, it's a tough tradeoff. LMK if you learn any good tips!
Hey Mike, It was a tough call to make, because my biggest network by far is on LI. However, I don't think people are going to LinkedIn to engage with newsletter/longer form content--which they are here on Substack. Another thing: with this writing I'm trying to reach a broader audience...many of whom don't work in brand/marketing fields. A big part of my LI network are marketing/brand people. And I'll continue to post shorter format stuff on LI so I can switch the newsletter without abandoning LI. It's all a big experiment--we'll see how it goes!

just curious... why is LI no longer a good place for BNW?
